Our Vision
Crossroads vision is for a thriving community, one where every person has access to the material means necessary to live a flourishing life.

With this is mind, climate justice should go hand in hand with social justice – ensuring every individual and community can thrive in environments that are set up to support both nature and people to flourish.

Next Steps
Crossroads will continue to raise awareness of the impact of climate change in the Gorbals context through developing green spaces and a localised food network. These interventions aim to increase trees and vegetation as a methodology of adaption and resilience to the local climate challenges.
Green Corridor
We hope that our Creative Wildflower Space at Crossroads Youth and Community Centre can act as a springboard to promote the development of a biodiversity corridor through the Gorbals.
There’s already incredible work being done in greenspaces in pockets of the Gorbals, but we would love to see these better linked strategically, physically and culturally.

We will seek to plant more trees and vegetation through the Gorbals. We see the development of urban parks and greenspaces as essential for reducing temperatures and creating cleaner air.

Gorbals Food Network
More than a talking shop – looking at issues, opportunities and space for change. An evolving area of work, bringing together partners from across the Gorbals to;
-
Crisis – meeting people in time of need providing support to people in crisis or at the sharp end of food insecurity. Such as free food tables, food banks, community fridge and pantries

-
Capacity – Opportunities that build on the skills and capacities of local people.

-
Change – transforming the way food is bought/sold and shared locally. Example, network of community growing, set up food co-op, have a physical shop
Citizens Science
We’re going to be working with Glasgow University’s Gallant project to develop a citizens science project. This will build community members capacity to document measure and analyse changes in air quality, heat mapping and biodiversity.
Our vision is to create natural capital assents within the Gorbals locality.

Influence Urban Planning Policymaking
People often feel voiceless and overlooked in decision making that affects their local area. Crossroads will continue to utilise local knowledge to influence and promtoie sustainable urban planning.
