Since 2012, we have operated one of the city’s largest food distribution services as a part of our anti-poverty initiative. Every Sunday from 1-3pm, we open our doors to around 200 people to offer food parcels and a hot meal. While the service plays a crucial role for Muslims from refugee and asylum-seeking communities- many of whom struggle to access halal meat and fresh produce- it is open to all. Regardless of background or beliefs, everyone is welcome.

 

The space also offers a chance for people to connect, share local knowledge and support one another. In Islam, charity (Sadaqah) is a moral duty and act of worship, benefitting both the giver and the receiver by strengthening community and spiritual life. This ethos is at the heart of our food service, where service users often return to help out as volunteers- continuing the cycle of giving. 

 

To access food support, come to the Central Mosque (1 Mosque Avenue, Glasgow, G5 9TA)  from 1pm on Sundays (no referral required)
